Aaron Wall is rightly regarded as one of the Daddies of SEO, but if there's a Mummy I think Rae Hoffman has to be in with a shout. One of the links in the above article goes to a post she did in early 2006 on Webmaster World which appears so wide-ranging and relevant today it somewhat amazes me she wrote it five years ago:

Damn right.

I found a link network recently which was hundreds of .info domains, each made up of massive numbers of plain white no-template pages with random refreshing PLR article crap and a bunch of 'spinning' client links at the bottom.

I checked a few of the client sites - one of them was ranking well for a fairly competitive phrase based on 170 links from the link network joker (from only 2 'class c' IPs) and about 30 article links (low grade spun crap as well)

It was the worst link network I have ever seen, but it was clearly still working for at least one client - at least at the exact moment I checked.

As this is 'out in the open' I won't post the urls etc..... but if anyone wants to dig around and have a laugh, PM me and I will dish the dirt.
