Google is preparing a version of its search engine for China that blocks results Beijing considers sensitive.
Can anyone tell me how Google is able to do THAT ?

Do you mean technically? They've always had the "report spam" process. I would imagine they can easily create a special version for Chinese authorities to "report criticism of the government."
If you are now suffering from FOMO, don't worry. I'm sure it's just a beta test and they will soon roll it out worldwide.
They are wasting no time after dropping the, "Don't be evil." clause.

Of course they do. Remember Searchking? They have a court judgement that says, in the US at least, that it's their index and they can list or not list whoever and in any rank they please.

Searchking is mentioned.
Back to China. It sounds like collaboration to me. Didn't Yahoo try something like this way back when? I think they got a lot of flack and eventually dropped it.
China already has the Great Firewall which blocks certain forbidden words, names and subjects. Google could tie into that.

If the search project launches, I believe Google is planning on partnering with Tencent for distribution.
Google was using 265.com to collect end user search queries before passing them onto Baidu & then they compared the search results from their internal Google ranking algorithms vs the results which were returned by Baidu, removing the sites Baidu had filtered.
https://theintercept.com/2018/08/08/google-censorship-china-blacklist/
Quotesearch queries entered on 265.com are redirected to Baidu, the most popular search engine in China and Google's main competitor in the country.
It appears that Google has used 265.com as a de facto honeypot for market research, storing information about Chinese users' searches before sending them along to Baidu.
They were basically doing an end around of tracking end user behavior to copy Baidu search results, sort of the same stuff that Search Engine Land ran an anti-Bing report on years ago when Bing was using Internet Explorer user data for longtail searches with few actual search results or end user queries to derive any sort of meaningful search result set from.
When Bing did it, SEL trashed it as unethical sleaze.

When Google does it is an innovative solution to a tough technical problem.
"When Google does it is an innovative solution to a tough technical problem."
And we let them get away with it!

If you have spent more on AI than anyone else & believe AI is the future then of course govs are sort of just in the way of the master plan & perhaps a source of cheap fuel until the company grows more powerful.
Eric Schmidt had a quote about wanting to have someone give them a city and just see what they could build. And Larry Page had a quote about wanting a land where they controlled where people could opt out of government. Larry also suggested governments will collapse under their own weight

He gains both ways on that. A true no lose prediction.
He is cozying up to political leaders in China by stating their greatness & he is also emphasizing the China threat to sell various advanced security stuff to the US gov.
