Our US Rep recently wrote an op-ed saying that "The Sky Isn't Falling," arguing that climate change is not serious, not having effects yet and that it is foolish to risk short-term economic harm on the off chance that maybe a warming planet might start to cause economic damage.
I thought: no, the sky hasn't FALLEN, but it is FALLING.
I also thought of Nestor going to Achilles in the Iliad and telling him that the enemy was making their watchfires next to the Acheaen ships and asking Achilles whether he didn't think it was better to defend the ship before they were on fire.

Yes, and time is running out. People are only now starting to realize that there's a big lag time on all this and even if we drop to zero tomorrow, things will get worse before they get better.
We basically need to get close to zero GG emissions AND develop carbon capture AND do it all very quickly.
It's unfortunate that Exxon, who had all the science on this back in the 1970s, opted for a campaign of delay and obfuscation, copying Big Tobacco. Small changes in 1980 would have made this process a lot easier. Now, we're pretty much screwed. If we don't see decisive action on this within 5 years (really BIG, decisive action), it will be game over. We are in triple overtime and the clock is ticking on this.
