Thanks Richard - this linking thing seems to be a minefield!

I must say that when we give people the choice of a text link, or image link, they go for the image link most often...

We definitely need to offer links that point to sub categories though, not just the home page.

Cheers, Phil

At the moment, businesses are adding small banners to their websites, which they seem happy to add. See the bottom of this web page:

We need to provide some kind of copy/code to give to busineses to put on their sites.
Maybe we offer a selection of three types of text links, and allow them to choose.

Traffic / Link text code

When a business adds themselves to one of our directories, we ask them to link back to us. However, in the past this has been a graphic and not a text link.

Here is our revised code:

<p>Listed in the<a href='http://www.cardiff.co.uk/plumbers/'; title='Cardiff Plumbers'>Cardiff Plumbers</a>section of the<a href='http://www.cardiff.co.uk' title='Cardiff'>Cardiff</a> Directory</p>

Should we try and have it so it appears more styled?

Would this be effective

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is some natural linking between the sites, but as far as I am aware, this is not of any benefit from an seo point of view as they are on on same c class ip.

Traffic / Multiple C Class Hosting

I'm looking into having each of our city sites on a different c lass ip, so Cardiff - couk would be on a different one to Southampton - couk.

The ones I've found are seohosting.com, seohosting.co.uk, seohost.com...

Are there any that people would highly recommend?

As it's an ongoing cost, I'd like to keep the cost down ;)

Traffic / Will this link count?
February 12, 2011, 02:04:02 PM
Hi,

Someone has added a link to Harlow.co.uk from the header of their site, as part of an exchange.

Harlowride dot co dot uk

The site uses frames, and I was wondering if the link to Harlow.co.uk would count from a framed page?

Thanks, Phil

This URL still works.

This is due to cleaning dirty URLs. Certainly not uncommon.
Take a listing page on up my street - you can probably change the name of the business in the URL and the URL will still work:
http://www.upmystreet.com/findmynearest/shopping/80stoyshopcom-located-in-cardiff-5422298B-toy-shops.html

or take this listing page: http://www.qype.co.uk/ukd31-stockport-heaton-moor
You can probably change the business name in this URL too, and it will still work.

This is due to URL re-writing. Certainly not uncommon as far as I was aware.

Traffic / SEO help please

Hi,

I'm new to this board, and looking for some fantastic SEO tips...
We have some weird results on Google for our sites, and wondered if anyone has some useful insights ;)
Our primary optimised page for 'Letting Agents in Cardiff' is http://www.cardiff.co.uk/2527-Local-Services/2959-Letting-Agents-in-Cardiff/

Currently though, if you search for 'Letting agents in Cardiff' it doesn't appear anywhere in the top 100 listings.

Moreover, if you search on Google for 'letting agents in Cardiff site:www.cardiff.co.uk' which searches for only pages from our site - Cardiff.co.uk, then our primary optimised page doesn't show up in the results until page 4!

Any thoughts? Thanks
