Water Cooler / Where is MH370?
March 14, 2014, 06:32:18 AM
Soem interesting theories and information from a high traffic pilots forum where most posters are professional aviators.  http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/535538-malaysian-airlines-mh370-contact-lost-155.html

I took the plunge and got away from my $20 phone and picked up a $300 straight from China model.   I picked this one up and have to say I'm pretty impressed.  Full HD, gorilla glass, rooted etc.  http://www.pandawill.com/umi-x2-smartphone-50-inch-1080p-fhd-screen-gorilla-glass-2g-32g-mtk6589-quad-core-android-42-grey-p74767.html

Thought I would post this after seeing the tablet thread in this section.

Now I just need to figure out how to use the darn thing. Amazing how powerful these phones are getting!

Water Cooler / FB privacy settings pissing me off
May 30, 2013, 04:54:29 AM
So in the past my FB privacy settings were set ( so I thought) to only friends can see my profile, non friends see nothing but the silhouette photo which means there is no photo.  Today a friend posted something about privacy settings, so I viewed my profile as a non friend and what did I see, both my profile photo and the header photo. So I poke around looking on how to exlude showing anything to anyone except friends, went through 15 different websites showing old steps to remove images, but now FB has profile image as "public" with no way of changing to "only me" or "friends". I then followed some other steps on how to change settings to "custom" "only me", tick the only me option, then finished editing, only to find settings didn't change one iota.

Looks like my only option is not to have any relevant profile images.

BTW I looked at all the sites on this search "facebook profile picture hide from public" and none of the advice worked from those sites.

Where I am they simply give you a new free sim card at the airport when you arrive and you can pay for minutes/data practically everywhere.  Is it like this in the US? I plan on having a family holiday and need to get my dual sim phone working so I have my TH number and a temp US number going at the same time, and buy some sort of temp data package.  Any recommendations or tips for this?

Monetization / Old domains worth anything
December 11, 2012, 04:14:40 AM
I've got a couple of 10 year old domains just collecting dust, and have someone that wants to buy, but won't give me a number for them. They have no pr nor traffic to speak of, but they've always been up and had some content. These are pharma specific two word hypenated domains.  Anyone deal with old domains and have any number they want to throw out?

I need a service that monitors servers when at times there could be a heavy load and has as many features that are needed as possible.  Any recommendations? I'd like to know for example if there are too many connections and site can't handle it, any outages etc.

So I've been working with a heavy duty email marketing guy, yet not seeing results that he was talking about. He now says he knows why and that is he is flooding my server with too much traffic and it's not getting in. He's got a stack of 250 servers in colo and has a 10gbps pipe.

Does this sound feasible that the traffic he is sending is just making my host think this is a ddos and traffic just simply isn't getting through.  On a tangent, he said he sent traffic to a youtube video and it got 1.3 million views in 24 hours.

I know we have some hardware/tech guys here, but unfortunately I'm not one of them.

Marketing / Plenty Of Fish
October 28, 2012, 07:22:07 AM
POF has a new metric that some other marketing platforms could use and that is now you can target people that have previously converted.  Not sure how they know if an advertiser converted from an ad, but it's a nice option to not waste time and money on worthless impressions.  http://blog.ads.pof.com/2012/10/25/we-revolutionize-the-game-again/

Economics & Investing / Goog stock price hammered

Trading suspended for a couple of hours, but still ends up 8% down.  I bet there's some happy webmasters out there.

I went out on a links hunt to find some affiliates and I was checking for hgh and came across these two sites that look like they are from the same people, same host, registered almost the same time this year, and flog the same products.    hghknowledgebase dot com and hghenvy dot com.

When using Dixon's site explorer tool at majesticseo both these sites show some serious quality backlinks.

For example the hghknowledgebase site had backlinks from    http://www.n2h.it    ( multiple pages)  http://www.kennispark.nl  http://www.caricomict4d.org and   http://stallgeriatrics.com

Anyone have any idea how the hell this guy is getting these links yet they aren't showing up in a normal browser?  I want to say well done as he's obviously paying a lot for these links, but they seem to be invisible to the average surfer.

I've had some commercial property in California for almost 25 years with the same tenants (yay) but the downside is our rents are way below market value and roi is not even 4% of market value of the property.  I want to raise the rents, but my partners ( my parents) don't want to as the tenants have been good to us.

A friend of mine here in Asia who is from Texas, says he's getting around 12% on properties in Dallas and Austin on condos.

Anyone have real world recent experiences with roi on property?  Any hotspots where rents are high and prices are relatively undervalued in comparison to how much rent they bring in?

I was reading something the other day about how mobile is now a big option for people viewing and buying on the net( Here in Thailand it isn't), and I'd like to make my super fantastic products available to those  that use mobile for shopping.  I did see the article that gridone  mentioned in RC's pinterest thread, but those still took some work.  Is there any site or software where you could have it spider your pages, then have a quick set up wizard allowing you to put in your content of choice, or have the site reformatted to mobile use,  kind of a "mobile website set up for dummies".
