Well, for the last three weeks it's been between -40 and -25ºC here... so yeah, 5ºF or -15ºC would be downright balmy. lol

Oregon was nasty soggy snow... slippery and hard to drive in, because it never stayed below freezing through the day. I remember once in 16 years there when the snow stuck around for most of a week, and schools were shut down the whole time. (We had epic snow ball fight gangs roaming the streets around the University though. Good times. :-) ) hehe

And yes, even solid ice is driveable if it's cold enough. Any time it gets warmer than zero or maybe 5 above (fahrenheit) here? It's just a mess. If only the weather demons could make up their damn minds. :-)

That's how Eugene, Oregon used to be. Any snow on the ground at 6am, school was closed and everyone was driving 3mph. Up here? The kids got a 7 day Thanksgiving vacation because we had three days of freezing rain (M-W) and accumulated 1+ inches of ice on the roads. Other than that, they don't even shut schools down if it's -50ºF, unless there's additional circumstances:

Psh. Now we have built in block heaters and battery heaters and whatnot. It's called having your car "winterized". Also, we've developed this fancy stuff called "synthetic oil", which isn't as touchy about cold as the old school stuff.

Of course, you wouldn't know anything about all of that down where you don't have winters. hehe

The heated garage floors here are just so your shoes don't get cold when you're in there... If your car is properly winterized, it doesn't need a garage at all until it needs repairs. hehe

No more pricey than putting in a floor heat system in a garage, is it? That's downright common up here... I guess it'd be more expensive if you have a long driveway though. lol But why would you need driveway de-icing systems in the UK in the first place?

From where I'm at, grnidone already lives South anyhow. 

It would probably be better off on the other side of the "Print" button, which I imagine nobody ever uses. heh
