>>the seven-seat SUV should sell for under $80,000.

Not that I want a seven-seat SUV, but... ouch!

My daughter is engaged to a mid- or upper-level exec at their US operations.  I've asked for a big 'father of the bride' discount ...so far, no luck. hhh

I realized that the "under $80,000" figure is mentioned because that is the limit for getting a federal tax credit on an SUV.

And BTW, this is just stupid. We are trying to encourage people to reduce their environmental footprint and we do it by adding a special dispensation to the largest, most environmentally-unfriendly cars. I understand that getting one gas SUV off the road counts more than getting many Priuses off the road, but I just don't see subsidizing $79,000 lithium hogs*

*I figured the chances that I just coined that term this minute were very, very low. In fact, there are a still very few hits around the web, but only three, maybe four in Google even with the supplemental results. So it is not yet common. I didn't come up with it first, but there's a good chance you heard it here first.
