Fasthosts Speed if Updating DNS

I have never used fasthosts before and I have to configure a load of domains.

I was wondering

1. How quickly after adding A records eg a new DNS IP how long before it propagates?

2. Do I need to have the nameservers with FH for the new IP to resolve

That's what I thought. I just did not want to sit around like a tit if I had the wrong setting.

Not down to FH

Although, anything that is up to them is delayed.

We have an old account with them with loads of client sites on it - every change we make is slow to happen - not slow in propagation terms, but often 10 to 15 mins before they post the changes.

Minor irritation I guess.
