We've had a few threads here about apps over the past few months.  Has anyone had joy with getting them ranked in the various app stores?

Just read this - http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2152859/App-Store-Optimization - which suggests across the main stores it boils down to the following:

  • app name
  • publisher name
  • keywords and description
  • popularity/downloads/installs
  • reviews

Anyone have any extra colour they can add to this?  Anything found to be particularly important/effective?  Easily gamable?

OK, after bit of searching here (should have done that first!  ::)) I'm starting to find some answers

Well, I don't know the android market, but if you want to rank in the iPhone store you need to pull the old directory trick on them... Incorporate and get an EIN for your keyword oriented company name. Then name your app your targeted phrase. The algorithm is heavily weighted towards keywords in the company name. Ratings have nothing to do with ranking. But downloads and conversion to download make up some of the secret sauce.
