Anyone heard of a UK based alternative.

The ony other option is a local slave to do this. But SB have a great looking set of featuers, like auto categorising.

Cheers

Good point and Jane has just said that to me.

I suppose you would need a fair amount of stuff to make it worthwhile.

I will fead back if I get any more info.

I have been "paperless" for about 2 years now, you may want to look into a scansnap scanner for all of your docs. On the mac I use a software called YEP to tag and organize everything. The scanner has OCR so all the text is searchable. You could also scan into evernot and do it that eay and have it synced across machines.

Beyond that I always use my AMEX for all purchases (or paypal) and that all gets imported and tagged into quicken.

My main thing w. out having actual paper is the backups. Need to make sure you have some offsite method for that.

This service does look pretty cool, but I prefer just to open my mail or empty my pockets and chuck it on the scanner.

Evernote did something like this with their Pro accounts. I don't know if you could mail things in, but they did have OCR for photos checked by real ppl. if I recall..haven't checked for a while.

me too, a little less

excellent scanner

> Yep

I went through several of these apps including Evernote, Paperless, and DevonThink.  I'm currently on Neatworks, which is pretty good.  I'm sort of a sucker for these apps, so I'll try Yep too.  Never heard of it before.

Evernote is a great solution, but I couldn't ever get comfortable with storing sensitive documents there.

not sure how hmrc would react to it?

Considering they can't get their head around their own online submissions it might be a bit of a leap of faith for them to not have the hard copy of some stuff if they ask for it?

Rumbas

Just had a nice written letter from the tax man instructing me to meeting concerning taxes in 2009. They would like to see personal receipts, some numbers on our personal finances, books from our companies etc.

I got almost all of it in digital format.

RC, can I borrow your big black plastic bag for the 100's of documents my printer is spitting out as we speak?

I had marked this thread 'unread' prior to your post, Rumbas, to ask what the taxman says nowadays about original receipts.  I do know that credit card statements aren't accepted as documentation.  Given that my CPA's are still occasionally reminding me to save receipts even though they know I do, I tend to think that if you get a ball-buster taxman your facsimiles of receipts aren't going to cut it.  But times have changed, maybe it's OK now?

Still, I wouldn't do the paperless system. Too much work vs my system (tub files changed annually, then archived).  Besides, you need to look like an OCD receipt-hoarder with bags & bags of receipts (not kept in order, mind you) when you meet the taxman in person.
