Classified scripts & themes

Thought I would ask here considering you guys have your fingers on the pulse.

I'm trying to start up a classifieds site and have been looking around at the scripts and themes available.

There are a few about but mostly look out dated and nothing really grabs my attention.

I've installed osclass but trying to get a response on their forums is like getting blood out of a stone.
But I don't think it can do what I want anyway without major hacking. (all I need is the refined search just to use countries and nothing else. You can do regions and cities but not countries :( I'm so close but yet so far).

So I'm on the hunt again.

I keep coming back to Classipress as it's on WP and I know my way round that, but I came across this one on Drupal which looks nice but doesn't look mature enough to me. I also have no experience with Drupal but that doesn't worry me too much - http://www.themesnap.com/theme-demos/proclassifieds/

Anyway, has anyone set up a classified site they would like to share their experiences about?
It's times like this I wish I paid more attention to programming in my early days. Half the problems I wouldn't be having now if I did :(

I haven't found which script they used -or if it's custom- but the most functional classified I've run across in a long time is on thesamba.com  --so if anybody happens to recognize a fingerprint I'd like to know what script it is.

I would say it's someone hacking away at the phpBB MOD script RC

Have you used it Drastic? any issues you've found that bug ya?
I would have a mooch around on their forum but you can only see the first post..... :(

Yeah I've got a few sites using it, nothing negative to speak of.

Depending on the features you want you may be able to do it with any theme that is suitable and the developer version of gravity forms (for paid submissions, standard for free).

With gravity forms you can create pretty much any form you want including post submissions to dedicated categories and user registration, with the developer version/single addition you can add paypal.

It may be a bit more work up front but will provide you with added flexibility and greater choice of design both now and in the future. So if you don't find anything else that suits, it may be worth considering.

Hope this helps

directorypress has a classifieds module.... I just noticed it a few weeks ago.

Thanks Leona, it does.

I have actually been looking at the plugins at http://premium.wpmudev.org/
Some nice ones there (I think) and it looks like I can marry several plugins into one installation of WP which will be handy
