So ICANN have released the list of applications for new gTLDs - all 1,930 of them.

See the list here http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/application-results/strings-1200utc-13jun12-en

Looks like Google have really gone to town with the applications...

very interesting indeed.  Thanks for the heads up

They sure have.

Reading through that list, I can't help feeling that all those new extensions are going to confuse the average joe no end.
Have to wait and see I suppose.

From a practical perspective I remember when one of the first new batches of tlds was released and there were some intrinsic technical problems associated.

For example, when .museum got the go ahead it broke the validation on numerous forms online due to the length of characters in the tld.

There seem to be some fairly long tld strings in those applications. Not too convinced by many of them to be honest.

Looking through that list I suppose one place to keep an eye on is http://donuts.co
They seem to be trying to monetising on them and it will be interesting to see what they do.

Definately agree with that. Looking at the management team for them there are some folks that really know what they are doing, notably Paul Stahura and Mason Cole.

Interesting.  Both Safeway and Walmart want the .grocery domain...wonder whose legal team will win that one.  *snicker*
