Any real money in ebooks?

Am thinking of putting together an ebook on a niche topic I know a fair bit about, but before I do I thought I'd ask what people on th3core think about ebooks in this day and age.

For example, is there still real money to be made from them, can you make money without having to go down the cheesy sales pitch route, what's worked for you, what hasn't etc.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ed

I have seen some good figures and information is a good do once sell lots type of thing.

We have a client we're working with on e-books, video and coaching with-in the dating niche and that seems to be a very profitable business - I hope.

I know someone who gets a shedload of downloads with a subject that appeals to the masses. I suspect its quite well written, but its not rocket science. How much he actually makes from it I don't know I'm afraid but its his main income source and he pays the mortgage.

The key word may be niche - imagine they work better in some niches than others :)

Saw this the other day.

"Amanda Hocking ...  has 9 self-published books to her name, and sells 100,000+ copies of those ebooks per month. She has never been traditionally published.  – at $3 per book1/70% per sale for the Kindle store – that she makes a lot of money from her monthly book sales."

non-fiction niche + demand can be good for ebooks.  Of course you have to market it and you may have to make a chapter available as reader bait.

You tend to make a lot more money per book on e-books too compared to traditionally published books.  Aaron has been offered several times by publishing houses to publish his book and he refuses because he makes more money by self publishing.

I am in the process of writing an ebook now which I hope to use in market a software product I've been working on.  If anyone else is going through the process I'd be happy to compare notes.

I am working on a couple of books.  I'm always happy to share notes.  Drop me a pm if you like.

Thx for all the input.

It seems there is money to be made, although I was thinking more along the lines of something like "How to improve your golf swing" / "Excel on the stock market" etc rather than actual novels in the ebook format.

Anyone who want to share notes, feel free to PM me also.

Cheers,

Ed

May be better to make that in HTML format and throw some ads  on it?  I've had moderate success with hosted mult-page howtos over the years.  They never make a lot, but they still trickle in earnings to this day.

Hi Littleman. Thought about that but it seems to me thinnish Adsense sites are getting more and more slapped by the big G, plus I guess with ebooks you can potentially upsell through email. Neither topic is something I know much about though! Cheers, Ed.
