Shame they keep mum on the charges.  I suppose this could be good for Paypal users as it could cause a price war.

On a kinda related note, I notice that the 'ballot' for olympic tickets opened yesterday.  If you order online you HAVE to pay by Visa AND "ensure you have sufficient funds available on the Visa card you provide between Tuesday 10 May 2011 and Friday 10 June 2011. Please also ensure that your Visa card will not expire before the end of that period. If your Visa card is declined or rejected, your application may be withdrawn. "

With tickets in the swimming up to £450 and the athletics up to £725 - I think they are extracting the proverbial urine.  Some bloody olympic ideal that!

Yep, £725+ for the 100M final tickets just shows what the Olympics is about - cash. It's a long way from the old Olympic idea. Why bother spending so much money on hosting the event if the pricing is going to put off/exclude the majority in the UK. They should have a defined number of free tickets for the prestige events that are allocated through a lottery for citizens of the host nation - might compensate in a small way for the huge bill.

Being someone who was living in Sydney when the Olympic happened the ticket prices are similar.

The game is simple.....there are loads of events that no one goes to and for £50 you really can have see some great stuff.

We did the a few of the expensive things and got decent tickets, ie athletics finals, closing ceremony.....but we did loads of fencing, weight lifting, volley ball, etc and they were cheap.

Admittedly Sydney is a city of 4 million people and miles from any where and most events were reasonable full, so I would guess that almost all of London will sell out.

My suggestions:

weighlifting
volleyball
fencing

Swimming, diving are dull.

Swimming was not Dull in Sydney if you're a proper Aussie.  ;)
Everyone loves to watch their country bag gold medals.

but then I did spend 5 years of my life with my head under water so I guess I'm bias

In 1986 I was press accredited at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh so I got into everything I wanted for free.  I found the swimming amazing fun.  Aussies seemed to win a lot then as well.

Anyway.  Back on topic...  I really hope that it is war, because so I can save on those paypal fees.  Mastercard are sure to follow Visa as well if everything goes well.
