Hi!

I am starting with a new online store, and while everything is ready I realized I am not sure how to handle the online payment. I was thinking PayPal is a must and except that plain MasterCard and VISA/VISA Express. Will that be enough or should I add something else? My store is aiming to be international but we're starting with Europe and North America to follow soon. Are those three options viable?

I have not tried more esoteric things (read: cryptocurrency), but my experience is that nobody uses anything other than Paypal and a few major credit cards even if you offer more options (ACH, check, etc).

I should say that almost everything I have done is low volume, so the effort of supporting more fringe payment methods is not worth it. The one large-volume website that I've worked on, which does over a million dollars a month, doesn't take Paypal. Just Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover.

In general, as someone just launching, I would say that you should take what you can take easily and securely and focus on things other than additional payment methods. Once you have some revenue, have some baseline numbers and you actually know how to run your business, then you can look for ways to optimize and expand and additional payment methods might be one of those ways depending on what sort of clientele you have.
