Two problems for privacy on this engine:

1. As far as I can tell you have to install a browser extension to see results.

2. There is a login which I assume is to store your customized list of preferred sources to search. (Your own, self created filter bubble.)  If there is a login, there may well be a trail of what you search for and something for hackers and gov'ts to access.

The filter bubble bit could be good or back.   RC's RSS software creates a filter bubble in a technical sense, but it also filters out dreck and dubious sources.  Plus its so wide ranging that the negatives are pretty mild.  So it al depends on what sources you chose with You.com and what is avaiable.

I also use an extension "Mark Selected Links As Visited" that can be set to mark every link on the page as visited without selecting. Of all the browser privacy ploys, Debbie says this is the most effective.  My browser daily history goes on for miles & miles.

SMH.  Even without thinking about privacy concerns, such a barrier of entry is going to turn a lot of people away.

That was one consideration for Bing and now I find people are always asking me to bing this and bing that to find the answer
