In fact, 27% of the world's overweight children under the age of five live in Africa and 48% are in Asia. Indeed, in some parts of Africa and Asia the number of overweight children is two to four times higher than the number of children who are too thin for their height (a measure of acute malnutrition known as "wasting").

This was projected to happen by a 2017 study published in The Lancet. Worldwide lockdowns made it virtually certain to happen on schedule.
