Ubuntu Server Within Desktop

Perhaps I am beinig a spaz, but I cant seem to locate the server within ubuntu desktop

Do I need to do commant line shit to get it going. This stuff was easy when I used to use fedora, it ws just there. Perhaps it is there and I am being dick.

Any tips appreciated.

Why have you switched from fedora to ubuntu?

Personally I have always used CentOS (Redhat)

Ubuntu should work fine if that's what he wants to use -- it is based on Debian and shares a lot of the same architecture. Thing is each distro has its own native methods for getting things installed. Its good to learn one and stick with it. The advantage of Ubuntu is that it can do double duty well as a development server and a Linux based desktop. I've been using Debian for over 10 years now and its done me well for whatever I've needed.

I did Ubuntu as I was told it worked great with lots of drivers. Suppose I should have tried fedora as i was happy with it.

It would have been good to use ubuntu based on similarities with Debian Sarge as I have a Debian sever and it would be good to back it up.

From what you posted Jason that looks like a server only? I was after quick os as an alternative to windows. Hoping it was slicker than win

Don't know the answer to your original question - but for what you want, you would probably have been better with Mint - it is ubuntu made more like Windows and pre-configured with a lot of the crap you need

If you are familiar with Debian as a server it may be worth it to use Debian on your desktop and just learn the one system really well.
