Can anyone recommend a press release service so I can make some noise in the UK?
I usually use the services advertised in the BH forums but these are designed for link building so I'm not sure if it's really what I want.
I purely want to get the business out in front of the right people.

PRweb tends to get it in front of people.  Not cheap though, so you need to be sure those people are going to run with it.

Chuckford, did you try it?

Or did you try PRweb.  It was always the favourite for me, but again I only ever tried the basic version mainly for links.

Just browsing about, many are US based, but this looks more promising.

Na, I didn't. I felt that I needed something a bit more involving e.g. not just plastering it on those services hoping for a bite.

But, funny you should post today as I'm going to go with this - http://www.peopleperhour.com/hourlie/provide-award-winning-press-release-writing-and-distribution/1651
The website looks good and I like the style he comes across in - http://jwcpr.com/

The guy seems pretty decent and honest. He quoted for a more bespoke service which is more than I can afford at the mo, but he has suggested a few things I can do and has put me onto someone to try and get some free publicity through their followers, I need to offer freebies of course.

But I'm going with his hourile which is more generic but he left a good impression so I'm happy to take a punt.

Will let you know how it goes.

Nice.
Not far off the £150 for
http://www.pressat.co.uk/press-release-writing-services-uk/

But they sell themselves very well, which means they might well sell you very well.  Let me know how you get on please, I have just been quoted £1500 per month for 12 months from one PR agency which is still way out of my budget.

I am sure you have some good PR ideas to run with too, after the April fools gag :)

ummm, makes you wonder what's happening at pressat when they talk about Pen&Pad ('one' of the companies doing the copywriting) who don't have a website and their last tweet was back in June 2013

OK, thought I would update this thread now that the deeds been done.

The press release was pretty standard stuff and I'm happy with it. It was sent out to a tailored list of people and I had a couple of bites, but nothing great.
Press releases are normally a shot in the dark and I'm sure these people get bombarded with 'new worthy' material.

But what he did manage to do was get me intouch with a comedian who's interested in what I'm doing, so I'm sending him a sample for him to try. Fingers crossed he likes it and mentions it to is 20K followers on twitter, plus other places too.
And.... he did manage to get a feature lined up after I sent him samples in one of the national newspapers, albeit a male orientated paper that comes out on a Sunday. You UK'ers should know what it is.
It's in this Sunday so fingers crossed it's in there hiding away in the corner somewhere.

All in all I'm happy with it, and can't grumble for £100
