Got some stick for my site being more like a (Sean Connery Voice) webshite.

So i've brought it out of the 80's and into the 21st century.

Pissed off at all of the blocking .js but what can you do, can't be arsed to do inner-tinkering with themes.

Please visit and tell me what you think, i've been told my images look too stock so i'll update them.

Any suggestions for improvement very welcome, is it fast enough on different devices etc, and milk no sugar thanks :)

Agreed

But the big point for me is this.

> I charge a flat rate of £100 per month and provide on-site optimisation as well as link-building. There are no contracts and you are able to stop and start the service as and when you like.

Dude, charge & contract properly!

Ditto on the images.

Too much text not enough "headlines"

You need to at least charge correctly, use the no contract thing as a sales angle.

Yes good advice both, and believe it or not i've taken it from members here already :)

I've restructured things and it may sound cheap but the details work out and i'm happy with how it's going.

I deal with small sites and people who are mainly trying to build businesses so i'm going for volume rather than price, but i also have a few larger deals.

Nffc, yes someone else said too much text but over half of my clients did read the blurb, which surprised me!

I think your plumber, sparky, travel-agent etc run such tight ships that they do read the blurb, and my blurb is targeted toward that straight-talk, no-nonsense mindset.

Used this handy plugin to quickly rebuild the site :

http://siteorigin.com/page-builder/

Along with the Minamaze Pro theme, which gives you good control and is well-featured :

Much easier than Notepad++ !

All will read the "headlines".

Let me tell you the story on my "breakthrough" related to charging.

I had just been through a long and rather complex business dispute, ended up in High Court.

At the time (1998 maybe 99) I was charging about £200 to "optimise" a web site, had a guy who sold phone covers number 1 everywhere for "phones" and boy did he moan about all the "useless" traffic. As an aside another member here was seo at Nokia, I kicked mucho ass.

Anyways one day the bill from the solicitors dropped through the door, they charged me £175 an hour. I was pretty mad about that. The same day the phone rang, a firm of solicitors had been recommended to use me by a friend. After a bit of chit chat they asked how much I charged, I looked at the bill I had just had earlier that day and still fuming said £175 an hour.

Of course I got the work, still have to this day. The reason I think is that as an "expert" my fee should be about equal to theirs, that resonates with a customer, makes it easy for them to assess your value.

So... how much does a plumber charge per hour?

gm66

nffc - food for thought, thank you !
