Sorry, this one is in French. I'm sure it's reported in English many places.

Short version: Google claimed that it was able to make a calculation in a few minutes that would have taken 10,000 years with a standard computer. Well, an computer scientist just came up with an algorithm that could make the calculation in a few hours running a standard PC.

Amazing :)
Too bad the full article is subscribers only.

English version the French article but full version also for subscribers only;

Good and some technical info that goes over my head but interesting nonetheless

QuoteHow do these results relate to the quantum advantage claims by Google? As they stand, they do not weaken or refute claims—with just a few more qubits, and an increase in D or f∞, the next generation of NISQ devices will certainly be much harder to simulate. The results also indicate that the team's algorithm only works if the quantum computer is sufficiently imperfect—if it is almost perfect, their algorithm provides no speed up advantage.

QuoteThe company's System Model H1 has now quadrupled its performance capabilities to become the first commercial quantum computer to attain a 512 quantum volume.

I had no idea they were even in the game
