Why DuckDuckGo Is Attacking Google Over Its Privacy Promises

Well yeah.  Google's whole business is now based on tracking individual users to serve them ads.  Topics and FLEDGE are Google's usual slight of hand schemes to make it look like they are responding to concerns about privacy when they are actually doing nothing about privacy.  That and getting rid of third party cookies probably hurts Google's ad competitors more than it will harm Google. 

The fact is anything from Google is going to spy on you by default and even if you find the settings to turn off the spying and data collection don't be so sure it really is turned off.

DDG wants to sell their own products.  DDG has come under some fire by free speech purists by suggesting they would downgrade Russian propaganda outlets in their SERP's so this might be a well placed distraction that serves DDG's interest. But even so, Google is a mile wide vulnerable target on privacy so DDG and other are going to keep sniping away.
