Okay, so I get being ideologically apposed to them, but controlling what parents do with their kids seems the opposite of small government. I'd rather keep the choice my own when it comes to my kids.

While I think that participation trophies aren't a good idea, I agree with LM that this isn't a matter for state legislation.
