>> Just like Big Tobacco

On the one hand, Big Tobacco was proven to have lied to Congress and was accused of conspiracy, fraud, and other nefarious things. In other words, they acted criminally and were tried criminally.

Does the same apply here?

Then there is the fact that a cigarette is a defined, identifiable product with a single problematic ingredient. There is not even an agreed-upon definition for ultra-processed food.

I'm guessing this case will be thrown out. It seems much weaker than the case against the oil companies and so far few of those have gone to trial and none have resulted in a settlement.

Agree. But the process has to start somewhere.  Maybe a few everyday citizens will become vaguely aware  ...just don't tell them pizzas are UP.

IIRC, Big Tobacco was finally felled by a thousand paper-cut-by-lawsuits.  Similarly, Monsanto (now owned by Bayer) is now deeper into the lawsuit wringer over RoundUp. We saw dozens of early, failed attempts at collecting damages from the tobacco industry.  More studies were funded, there were discovery processes, and eventually the dots between smoking & cancer were connected.

BTW, the discovery process for big lawsuits are done by specially trained AI assisted by a lawyer and a dog. You know the dog's job. hhh
