Pretty interesting and touches on two narratives around AI.

The first is that AI is great at tasks and bad at jobs. This paper really studies task replacement. It's based on the amount spent at Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal, PeoplePerHour, Arc (formerly Codementor),
MarketerHire, and Catalant.

So the first lesson is that if you're doing a lot of small tasks for people who are running a big project, you better level up to running the big project. Your days as a task monkey are limited.

The second is whether or not AI replaces a $40/hr worker for free or for $20/hr equivalent of $50/hr equivalent. As the GPU rental costs rise, it looks like AI is pretty spendy. But in this case, it's basically free. Three cents on the dollar.

The worst case scenario is that AI can replace one hour of a $40/hr worker for $40. That means that companies would do it to avoid those pesky things like sick days and holidays and scheduling conflicts, but it would mean that no actually money is freed up in the economy to do other things. The better case scenarios are that it costs $80 (in which case no job displacement) or $1 (in which case, at least productivity goes way up).

Don't forget pregnancies, parental leave, & bitching about health insurance.

I'm talking to the union rep about ensuring that our robots get smoke breaks though.
