I think Taleb is super over-rated and often just full of himself or full of something else. But since he coined the term Black Swan in the sense it is used in the article, I suppose he's an expert on that.

But I think he would say that the events listed are NOT Black Swan events. Just like he insists that Covid was not a Black Swan event.

The essence of a Black Swan event is that it is an event that could not have been predicted, but which in hindsight seems highly predictable. Since Covid and everything in the article (has anyone ever considered the possibility of an extended power outage?) has by definition been thought of and considered, they are by definition, big but predictable events.

A Black Swan event is something that by definition you can't really prepare for.
