email just came in:
"In the next month, we'll introduce the +1 button and personal recommendations to display ads. The +1 button will begin to appear on AdSense for Content and AdSense for Mobile Content display ad formats -- image, animated gif, and Flash. +1s will be one additional signal to help determine an ad's relevance and we'll continue to show the ads that will generate the most revenue for you.

We previously launched the +1 button on Google search and for publisher sites to make it easier for people to share and discover content across the web. Soon, your users will be able to endorse specific ads and make the ads more likely to appear to their social connections. We believe that these recommendations could help your readers notice ads on your site more, leading to higher returns for you over time.

If you prefer not to show the +1 buttons on display ads on your pages, you can opt out in your account. For more information please visit theInside AdSense blog.

Sincerely,
The Google AdSense team"

>Got that. Not sure what to make of it.

Same here. What imbecile (other than the merchant) would +1 an ad?  I think G's on a +1 branding campaign.

So now people will pay for people to click their +1 button so their ad will be considered 'better quality' and will get more favorable pricing/ displays?

The way it is reading, one won't have to click the ad to push the +1 button...am I misunderstanding?

I am sure brighter minds than mine have thought it through, but it does not make sense to me.   ???

also, I think there is going to be a back lash to feedback.  I am getting fed up of having to field calls of people wanting feedback.

amazon want it on every ticket, ebay want it not just on transactions, on everything.

To me this is just another pointless excercise, that does me personally (as someone looking at the ads) no favours.  ::)

I'm sure I'm attributing too much evilness to Google here, but given the really obvious reasons this is a crap idea, I wonder if they already know it's a test which will be withdrawn and are just wanting to see which spammers advertisers get a lot of clicks against their ads?

FFS, Google have totally lost the plot.

Then again, because Yahoo and Microsoft are too stupid to push at any real competition to the Adwords/Adsense combo, Google can run rampant as they like, and continue to screw publishers over with idiot adjustments.

Sincerely hoping Google + goes the way of Orkut.
