The question becomes:  what type of beer will you drink?

As I read it, I was thinking about doing it, how it will be shielding the signal from the road as well.......

Then I thought Naw, Sue will never agree to that,  ::)

Pringles cans used to the the favourite of the phreak/hack community to make directional antenna.  Same principal.... and gives you some munchies to go with the beer.

I am actually using the well-known FIY* wifi antenna booster/reflector at home, and it works quite well. It's easier to cut, and to shape into a smooth-ish parabola, than a beercan...

I use a coffee can cut in half myself, it's pretty close to the correct shape before tweaking it.

Do you not have to "skin" the wifi router antenna to remove teh rubber cover?  I't think the rubber cover on the antenna woudl interfere.

Drastic

No, don't need to do anything to the antenna, except maybe replace it with a better one.
