Based on last years thread :

http://th3core.com/talk/water-coolerextra/plans-for-2011/

I did not post last year for some reason.

1. Extricate myself from the property stuff I have got myself into over 4 years, lots of draining people, good money but not enjoyable.

2. Get into various web projects with DougS, all of which are not clear, but that is not a problem.

3. Helping Doug with http://th3core.com/talk/water-coolerextra/plans-for-2011/msg5067/#msg5067

4. Keep collecting some of the affiliate cheques for some of the shit I have thrown up, but not spending too much time. Train someone else to use the 100's of expired domains I have.

5. Become fit and healthy, even more of an athlete than I am (I know this may be hard for some of you to comprehend)

1.  Travel.  I'm just waiting for the last of this months invoices to be paid and then I'm booking at ticket to Thailand and drifting about from there while working.
2.  Build a proper content site, just to see how the other 1/2 live :D
3.  Run 1000km in 2012
4.  Kick my way into the gambling niche with a new JV
5.  Look at other lead gen markets, eg insurance, home improvement and green tech
6.  THINK about opening a link building office in the Philippines, the turnover of freelance staff is very high and quality isn't always there....

Work:
I've already started on my 2012 plans.

1. Phasing out my ppc-affiliate work
I've done the math, and it doesn't pay as well on a per-hour basis as web projects I've done.  On top of that it is so damn vulnerable & there are no long term returns (dividends if you will). Its short-term profits have been a crutch, but its time to move on.

2.  Build sites on popular topics that have legs (reasons for people to come back, reasons for people to link into).

3. Work clients as they come in.

Personal:
1 Keep working on getting in shape.  I think that I have another 15 lbs. to lose before I switch to maintenance.  I want to see my abs.

2 Getting fixed this year, four children are definitely enough.

3 Sleep a normal amount.

  • Bulk up my sites' content
  • Train some code monkeys so I don't have to do everything myself all the time
  • Get the hell out of Japan a bit more to take advantage of this high ¥en
  • Like LM, I am on a quest to see abs - Intermittent Fasting

- Get two sites launched which have been under construction for way too long.
- Move my office to the other end of the house.
- Write and publish an e-book which relates to an existing site.
- Redesign one of my existing sites (for sure)
- Redesign one more of my existing sites (maybe)
- Beef up my PPC-affiliate advertising (I have some things in mind that wouldn't be high maintenance.)
- More travel, starting with PubCon in February.
- More time with grandkids.

1. Do less work (and more strategy)
2. Increase staff numbers by at least 2
3. Sack some more annoying customers
4. Get more money out of each of the remaining customers
5. Justify my decision not to sell one of our key sites by making it kick arse this year
6. Lose at least a stone of what I put on since I gave up smoking
7. Stop hiding from the industry and show my face at a couple more events
8. Be a better Dad & Husband
(I like to think I am already quite good at these, but there is always room for improvement)

Should be an interesting year for me as my main earner will come to an end.  On the up side that means I have to do new things which is always fun.

1. Sell (or mothball) the sites I have which have not been working.
2. Use the systems I already have to expand beyond sites into mobile/FB/Windows store apps.
3. Invest everything I can back into growth, buy existing sites apps etc which fit what I do (a year without wasting money).
4. Work more with other people.

Personal -
1. Take an hour out each day to do something physical (working from home makes you fat and gets you offers to play Santa!)
2. Have more than one week off.

Good luck to everyone in their goals!

You should start a new thread on this.  I'm sure there are a few of us thinking about this!  :-\

- Start going to more get togethers. I only went to one affiliate network do last year and prior to that the last conference I attended was in 2003, and that wasn't even seo related it was more focused on domain names. I need to pull my finger out and get to the next shindig with you guys.

- Start looking longer term and work on sites that can be made into brands, rather than sites that will make short to mid term money.

- Try to get involved in social media more. Being somewhat misanthropic its a bit of an anathema to me. I'd like to get to a stage where I find social media work enjoyable rather than a chore.

- Continue to read at least a couple of books a week.

I'm going into the radish business.

For those of you non-farm types, daikon radishes are now being used as a cover crop between plantings of cash crops.  There are two places you can get seed for this:  Pennsyvania and Oregon.  And Dad is going to start being a seed supplier in Kansas to bridge the gap.  I've made a deal to make a commission on all the sales generated from the to-be developed web site.  (Kind of top secret, but I figure you guys won't tell anyone who matters anyway.)

I think it'll be a nice little side income for savings; Dad bought a new pickup just from the web sales of seed wheat (at about $15 per 50 pounds) and radish seeds are about $2.00 per pound.  (I didn't put a lot of work into the seed wheat site, but you can bet I'll work my butt off for the new radish site.)

I've got to do some planning for 2012 other than that...but that's a start.

Back to writing radish articles!

All change this year :)

Recruit an in-house developer to convert the main affiliate site to a retail site, and create more retail sites within the same niche.
Expand the existing retail site to include kids furniture and outdoor play.
Make more use of Odesk etc  to take over the mundane day to day routines
Create more exact-match domains in the affiliate arena.
Create our own range of kids bedding for wholesale.
Shuffle existing staff to maximise strengths and take all the SEO and Social stuff in house.
Patent and ensure I've got the intellectual property rights to the designs of a new jewellery range  that I need to launch(super excited about this)
Do all this by mid year so I can go back to 'playing' with affy sites and dreamweaver.

oh, and
cut down on working hours to spend more time travelling and with my grandchildren.
and not grow old :)
