Someone just told me that it now blocks analytics.  Anyone know details?

Yep using it and it blocks Google Analytics, the FB and +1 buttons, comscore beacon, critee.  Those are the ones I have noticed so far. Doesn't seem to block Clicky though.

If the anti-analytics things goes much further I think I'll dump GA and switch to one of these:

I am going to look at hosted options though. I'm thinking that rolling analytics cookie in to one site-wide cookie has distinct advantages considering the EU directive and having that less obvious than a GA cookie has further advantage still.  I really like GA, but I'd swap it for somethign less whizzy and more accurate.

I'm using it just as a screw you to G.  They hide the secure search data so I will hide what sites I'm visiting.  I am using Chrome though so they still know but it makes me feel better.

Clicky is quite nice but an opensource solution would probably be better, at least you should be able to change the footprint so it can slip through the privacy net.  I don't know of any sitewide cookie analytics but haven't taken much notice of cookies before.

Are they doing this so they can jump on the bandwagon about the EU privacy/cookie law?

I think it is the do not track bandwagon.

That's a annoying

I am pretty sure AVG can be detected and large warning flags shown to people using it.

Is it the Anti Virus app itself or is there an AVG toolbar? If toolbar, what browsers is it for?

Added - it's not a new thing really is it - http://www.webmasterworld.com/search_engine_spiders/3615360.htm

It's bundled with the normal AVG.  I unticked the toolbar boxes and it still seems to have installed.  On Chrome it's just a little eye which you can click and select the trackers you want to hide from.

I have noticed my URLs for google look weird...  pretty sure they didnt look like that before installing avg

Looks like IE10 will be sending the DNT command by default.  This might be MS echoing what the people are saying or it could be MS clutching at straws trying to hurt Google
