Ugh - that pains me so much. However the combination of their prevalence and non-standard set up means we really need to be testing on a tablet. As Apple's tablets seem to have the fussiest browser that seems the best option - much as that pains me.

Any reason not to get a cheap 1st gen model? Is the browser pretty much the same / would have been updated. Literally want to stick it on wifi, test some websites and use it as a tea tray the rest of the time.

Rumor has it that the next version of iOS (ver. 6?) will not be able to run on a Gen 1 iPad.  So Gen 1 iPads will lowly be left behind as far as new and greatest features including improvements to the mobile Safari browser.

Bang for the buck, I would go for a refurbished Gen 2 iPad - it will be able to run the most up to date apps longer than a Gen 1 and therefore be a useful business testbed longer.

Plus you can watch your staff fight over who gets to use it.   ;)

Heart breaking moment. :o  I have learned to admire you over the last year and a half, so very sad to see it happen.

You know you do need to see someone about this, before it gets worse.

When you find yourself muttering about "The apple being pure", call me, I can talk you through it .

If I ever say that and don't finish the sentence with the word "hype" please punch me in the face.

Ipad 2 then. Sod refurbished, it really won't get used much. Time to hit ebay.

Yeah: thought you'd laugh.
Only reason we need one though is to do testing for all the 'tards who can't figure how to use a mouse & keyboard.

Nice idea!  I think I might search ebay for some dead ones.

Quoteuse it as a tea tray the rest of the time.

Is there a ridge big enough to catch the drips? I can see a new line in plastic trays :)

"Invasion of the Fondleslab" would be a good movie title.  ;D

Actually I don't find Safari browser all that picky, except of course with Flash.

Brad

Okay Rootop, did you buy it yet? Have your staff let you use it and if so what do you think?

Still working up to it.  Keep managing to find better things to spend my money on.

Well I just bought a 3rd Gen, iPad with Retina Display and Verizon LTE 4G and the screen is stunning, processor speed is very good and the 4G speed excellent.  With a Zaggfolio bluetooth keyboard/case combo it comes darn close to replacing a laptop, especially for email and forum posting.

I suggest you do not get the 3rd Gen lest you get too attached to it.   ;)

The price I pay for this bounty is my old 1st Gen iPad gets shipped off to Mom, who has never touched a computer in here life for her first exposure to email and the Internets.  I'm tech support.  Shoot me now.

With the possible exception of crack I can't imagine what it could be.

I bought some milk & a sliced loaf on the way home. I was more excited about that than the thought of buying an ipad. I mind you....It was wholemeal, so who wouldn't be?
