QuoteFriends,

These days, you may be seeing fewer of my posts; Facebook is as crowded as an Apple store on Sunday. To ensure your "Daily Takei," simply visit my page George Takei and click the "gear" symbol (next to "Message" by the top). From the drop-down menu, select "Add to Interest Lists."

Facebook also rewards fan interaction, so like, comment and share my posts, and we'll be intertwined like a lobbyist and a congressman.

It's nice to see someone encouraging this without the usual mis-information.  I've been getting irritated by the number of supposedly savvy people saying "Google have changed the way they do things and we now have to pay for everyone to see our posts".  NO... It's the same, but you now have a way of paying to reach the people who wouldn't have seen it anyway.

Gurtie

Google? You know something we don't know or just getting your global multiconglomerates muddled?

Rooftop

Doh. Wrong evil megacorp.

I meant Apple.

jimbanks

Still wrong, I think you mean Facebook.

They are all evil anyway.

I have mixed feelings about the Promoted Post. Selecting important topics to get a Bump is not a bad idea, it's comparatively cheap and if the data backs out it is no different than buying Adwords or any other form of advertising. I just think people need to be smart in the way they use it and use it sparingly.

I like how elegantly George just sidesteps the whole issue - perfectly balanced between education and humor.  If you could only ask your fans to do one thing for you, that's exactly what you'd want to ask, and how to ask it. I thought it was brilliant.

I see these types of notices quite a bit and every time I do, I think they are the way to go...

It's why I push not to use FB as primary thingy.
