Old domains worth anything

I've got a couple of 10 year old domains just collecting dust, and have someone that wants to buy, but won't give me a number for them. They have no pr nor traffic to speak of, but they've always been up and had some content. These are pharma specific two word hypenated domains.  Anyone deal with old domains and have any number they want to throw out?

I think age has value for authority, and the only way to acquire it is wait or buy. I'd be thinking low to mid 4 digit at least.

I'm seeing some activity at $1500.

Thanks drastic and rc, that helps.

Jeff, someone with a huge domain catalog recently told me it's hard to get a decent price unless the site is built out. It doesn't take much, but a tiny little site with a couple of mediocre links and a "for sale" sign on it apparently is the way to get a decent price these days (short of a mega site, but then you're selling the site, not the domain)

Thanks Tom. Sites have had content since day one, it's just a lot of stale content, maybe 6 year old stale!

If they are built out you are selling sites vs domains... so the value should be there. As long as they are indexed they are worth something.

On the domain front, usually anything with a hyphen is worth a fraction of even the .org

So lets say the .com is worth 10k. The .org is maybe 750-1000, the hyphen.com I would think is 500ish at the most. If it is just a domain. As a site, it is whatever you think you can get / would be happy with.

I buy and sell lots of domains, and have decent luck with people writing in and from brokerage / domains lists such as tobyclements.com

If the person wrote you they have value to them whether you realize it or not. If they have not made an offer and you have not given them a $$$, they probably know what they are doing.

I would ask like 10x what you would be happy selling them for, and negotiate from there.

Do you have analytics or some other stats on there? Could they be ranking somewhere?

If you are selling sites, wouldn't it be necessary to show some sort of proof of traffic/income/both?

I meant this in anticipation of IW's comment. In these cases, the "site" is minimally built out, has little to no revenue and the buyer really wants to buy the domain and just erase the existing site. The site merely gets a few pages in the index and shows that there's been something there other than parking.

I was thinking that selling a "site" means that the buyer wants the actual content/membership/whatever and is planning to evolve the existing site. In which case the purchase is for content + domain + membership = "site", probably at some multiple of revenue.

I'm seeing a little flurry of activity. Just sold one (travel tour related) through escrow.com for $2.1k and had an unrelated, solid inquiry about another: boaterguide.com  I priced it at $5k firm.
