I'm going to give it a go in the replicator. As I'm currently out of fresh bluefin tuna, anybody have any ideas for an easy substitute? Shrimp, maybe.

JasonD

I don't know what's easily available over there salmon, mackerel, sea bass, squid, octopus, mullet ?

rcjordan

Squid sounds good.  Hmmmm, maybe sea scallops.  Mostly, I'm addicted to the ginger.

I love sushi, its all good.  Shrimp is my least favorite.   Be careful with raw salmon, it is known to carry a parasite.  All US sushi grade fish is flash-frozen which will fix that.

JasonD

sounds like a great night's eating :)

Yeah, I like it all except that urchin stuff.  I've been known to break the bank in sushi bars.  Surprisingly, a simple tuna roll  is about my favorite.  A California roll is pretty good, too, so for home convenience and speed, maybe avocado and cucumber strips?

Drastic

I eat sushi just for the fresh raw ginger.

well that and tempura.

littleman

Avocado and cucumber staples of our rolls -- it makes the fish go farther.  This may sound weird, but we also make a type of Hawaiian sushi with spam sometimes called a musubi.

I love bluefin but, like Drastic, the main thing I require out of sushi is for it to be a GDS --ginger delivery system.   I'd mainline pickled ginger if I could figure out a way to do it.  Or maybe I'll get a nice snuff box and start putting a pinch in my jaw, hhh.

>spam

I was thinking of trying a strong salami.

LoL. Vitamix should be able to accommodate.

rcjordan

I've made a huge mistake. ...It worked.  I ate half a jar of ginger on the first batch. Must. Stop. Now.

Drastic

hhh!

Speaking of eating seafood... about time for another east coast crawl?

rcjordan

>crawl

Maybe. Probably should have its own thread. Your call.

Well, you made me a ginger addict too. Can't seem to ditch the habbit of ordering 2-3 sides of it when having sushi - which is my favorite food by far.

>break the bank

I remember you, me and Torben taking care of 100+ pieces here in Copenhagen once. Yum.

I took my kids to the Jelly Belly factory a couple of days ago in Farefeild (about 1.5 hours from where I live) and afterwards we drove to this great and very affordable all you could eat sushi place in West Sacramento which took another 50 minutes to drive to, but it was worth it.  You guys would have loved it, there was unlimited amount of ginger to eat.  Anyway, it is only $20 a person.
