Monitor Upgrade

So I finally went with a larger monitor, 27", at 2560 x 1440 (QHD). Man I love the screen real estate.

Problem is scaling everything properly, text looks great at 125%, images not so much. Text is a bit small at native.

I'm thinking the sweet spot is going to be 30" at this resolution, to keep from scaling and everything will be nice and crisp.

This is the one area I can see Mac has pc beat, they scale everything perfectly from what I understand.

Windows does scale things pretty well - but for whatever reason the various software vendors haven't kept up. My windows laptop is running at 3200x1800 and some stuff is bloody appalling on in.

Very cool, Drastic. I'm very used to this 46" 1080p, but have been thinking about going 55" 4k. The 9XX Nvidia cards have HDMI 2.0 (4k at 60fps). Maybe I'll pull the trigger in 2015.
The way I think about it is having 4 1080p monitors without the bezel, or scaling issues. It'll be a fun experiment.

I currently have four 23" 1080p displays in an inverted 'T' shape. I can't really say I feel that I don't have enough real estate any more, but I often stretch window so they span the two vertically stacked displays. I'm very tempted by the idea of three 27" 4K display in portrait, that'd get around that limitation, and roughly double the number of pixels. I'd rather not have the expense of new graphics cards at the same time, but that seems unavoidable.

I ran a 42" 1080p for years. Worked great when pushed to the back of the desk. But even on a low pedestal the top edge was a little high. I just positioned seldom-used icons and windows up there like you multi-monitor guys do with the side monitors.

It's at the back edge of the desk, so 2.5 feet.
It is sitting on a split-level desk (front and back). It is adjusted so the center of the screen is at eye level.

A 55" 4k screen would give you the equivalent of four 27" 1080p screens. 311sq.in. vs 1291sq.in.
A 46" 4k screen would be equivalent to four 23" 1080p screens.
A 55" is the max I'd recommend for a desk. 47"-55" seems to be the sweet spot.

Your mileage may vary.
I'll post a photo if I ever git 'er done.

Seems like a huge screen at that resolution, guess I'd have to see one to understand.

So I bumped my text back to 100%, the fuzziness on app images drove me crazy.

Fortunately, this monitor is sharp enough I think I can live with the text at this size. Pretty nice res, you can have two 1280 width windows side by side.
