Would a metal mechanic's chest function as a Faraday cage?

File this under: found on the Internets, so I don't know if it is true.

I read somewhere that an all steel garbage can will protect so long as it is lined with an insulating material so that whatever electronic components stored inside cannot contact the metal.

Of course all of your coveted electronics would have to be secured inside said Faraday cage when the pulse goes off...

And, if it's The Big One, there will be nothing to use it on even if it was safe in the Fcage.

I keep a lot of my goodies in a Snap-On tool chest when they're not in active use. I wasn't thinking "Faraday" when I bought it, just lots of drawers, great organization and lockable.

I assume it would compare okay to a garbage can!
