Chrome under Win 10

Conspiracy theory time.

Win 10 comes out with a fanfare about how great Edge supposedly is (sneaky, it also gets set to default when you upgrade to Win10).
Chrome performance under Win10 is crap for me.  Very slow interface, scrolling etc.

Yeah, I nuked just about everything in settings and Chrome *almost* got up to its old speed.

The rule I have lived by very happily for many years with Windows is: Upgrade the OS when you upgrade the hardware and not before. And never in the first three months after release.

I still try to avoid Windows as much as possible, but I need to use it to get access to the PPC desktop applications which make importing and exporting easier and I do like Excel.  I've found that staying a couple OSs behind has worked for me when I have to use Windows.  Looks like Vista is slowly being abandon these days, time for me to upgrade to Windows 7!

Up until w8, that was my general rule. Now, since I've off-loaded 95% of my 'support' issues to just pointing to an app for android or ios to try, I don't really care.  I have 4 good backups for my frontline W(x) machine and new ones are cheap, too. What I DON'T like is skipping an os altogether as I did with Vista.

I used to always wait 3 months, but I got swayed by all the good reviews.

I seem to have got to the point where I only use an OS to:

1. Connect to network/wifi
2. Launch excel
3. Launch browser
4. Use a notepad variant (currently notepad++ but I don't really care)
5. Run screaming frog
6. Company chat

I'm basically an Excel alternative from going to something Ubuntu-ish. Last time I checked Libre it wasn't great. Maybe it's time to check again.

I used to be similar, until SSDs came out which (for me - vista at the time) required a new OS. Biggest hardware boost I've ever seen from a sinlge upgrade.

I used to wait until the 2nd service pack before building a new machine with the latest OS. Things are better now, so RC beating his to death a few months first will suffice.

Aren't you hitting the cell limit all the time?  I like docs/sheets and I think that if I spent some time throwing some add-ons together I could love it.    I do seem to hit the 400k cells limit pretty frequently though.

I guess I only use it for quick business stuff rather than proper data analysis. For "real data" it just doesn't cut the mustard and even a small dump from say Majestic will kill it, so I don't bother.
