Grrrr-oogle! A quick cautionary tale.

I was all set to enjoy one of those rare "all caught-up" weekends when first thing Saturday AM is see this: "Social engineering content detected on... Google's Safe Browsing systems have detected that some pages on your site might be hacked or might include third party resources such as ads that are designed to trick users into installing malicious software or giving up sensitive information. To protect your site's visitors, your site has been demoted in Google's search results and browsers such as Google Chrome now display a warning when users visit your site. "

So I spent most of Saturday combing through the server looking for any new malicious code. Strange, I couldn't see anything wrong... I read a bunch of stuff on G's forum and the phrase "false positive" kept coming up. I followed Google's "troubleshooting guide" and the site was clean. So, without making any changes to the site, I submitted a reconsideration request. On Tuesday morning the "Review successful for" message appeared. It was a false positive!!!

My advice if you receive this notice - it may very likely be a false positive.

Thanks for wasting my Saturday Google!
