The Robo Call Plague

I've been getting an increasing number of robocalls on my cellphone.  Yesterday they started at 7:17 AM and they are persistent at one point I got 4 calls in less than an hour using various numbers and No Caller ID.

What has been catching them is an app called "Nomorodo" which uses a constantly updated blacklist of known robocalling numbers.  You can set the app to either flag the incoming call as spam or to send it directly to voicemail.  Nomorobo is not free but the subscription is reasonable. So far it's catching most of the robocalls.

The app is iOS only for now but Android version coming soon.

Anyone else have a robocall problem?  What is your strategy to contain it?

It's happening more frequently with my cell also. I've heard about apps that deal with it, but have not installed one yet. I'll check Nomorobo out.

My strategy is if there is no number I don't answer. End off. If it's important they can leave a message.
If a number I answer turns out to be spam, then I click the block option (in android) so they can never call me again.

Yes, our business numbers go through call tracking where we block at system level.

For ones that go straight to the cell, latest Android includes a known spam numbers feature and shows that while ringing.

Before it was default on Android I used an app called Mr Number which also has a site that I sometimes use to help determine if a call should be permablocked network wide.

It is much more manageable now since we only promote numbers through call tracking, but they do buy new numbers regularly so it is ongoing.

My Mom keeps getting calls from Donald Trump yelling in her ear.

Wow. What a PITA. I'm really fortunate to live in an area that has zero robo calls, and it's unheard of to get sales calls on mobile. And I can get off sales call lists to my land-line simply by speaking English...

Doesn't work in the US. Because my wife has a very common Chinese and Vietnamese last name, we would get a lot of sales calls in Vietnamese when we lived in the Bay Area. Speaking English got them to hang up, but not to stop calling. They probably think it's the bad kids who haven't learned the mother tongue and keep calling back hoping to get a grownup.

Joking aside it's bloody good fun playing around with this stuff.
