Location-tagged ToDo list

I keep approx 100 items in my to-do list. These range from short-term to ultra-long-term. Add those that repeat on a schedule and the tally would be [insert big number here].  I primarily use Gmail inbox for my current items, with repeats driven by G calendar notifications. Works great for me as well as serving as a way to pass many of the important, repeating items ('expert system' nagware for corporate tax deadlines, accountant reviews, etc.) along to Louise should I become incapacitated.

But, in quantity, the bulk of it is comprised of shopping items, materials, tools, repair shops, yada yada that I just need to jot down and do whenever.  In addition to the above, I use a combination of apps (OurGroceries & ToDoist).  Overall, the system is multi-device, multi-platform, relatively simple, convenient, and free. I've found, though, that it needs one more tweak; locations.  I was recently in a neighboring town taking care of one appointment on my list and remembered another totally unrelated item buried in another shopping list. The only commonality was the town.

ToDoist (mentioned here: http://th3core.com/talk/members-only/echo/msg46691/#msg46691) allows tagging. I'll try embedding location tags across all my various to-do list sub-systems. Should work, but it'll be klunky.  ToDoist Premium also has location-aware notifications but that wouldn't have helped in the above example, though I may consider it as another tweak at some point.

Consider this a general musing, but it is a hole in list-based to-do|shopping apps.

I've just bought a second hand filofax clone (albeit with 2017 diary inside) from eBay and am going old school, albeit with a modernish twist.

I am disorganised. My brain is a wash of ideas and 20+ years ago someone said that my head was strangely logical. That was why my business was strangelogic for many years,

I purposely need to go out of my way and make conscious choices to stay semi organised. I had a (well deserved)  reminder and kick up the backside last week and this is my current attempt at trying to fix that organisation.

The modern twist is my ipad mini will fit inside. I have bought a $0.99 cover for it and a small 3mm sheet of plastic the cover will be glued to, before drilling the 9 holes for the filofax. Then my iPad wil fit inside and when I write on the good old fashioned paper with my Livescribe pen, it will be transferred to the iPad and all devices, ultimately ending up on Evernote or wherever it need to go.

Time'll tell whether it will work, but I have highish hopes :)

Once I set up an item, the system outlined above is unforgiving pretty good. The expert system repeats are very good and tend to evolve well with trial-and-error tweaks.

If I were to fantasize about the perfect to-do|reminder list, it would include a placename tag (simple town, postal code, maybe unique neighborhood names). OR, if you want to go 'full geek mode,' lon-lat geocodes.  I'd punch in a trip on Gmaps and it'd give me a list of reminders along the route.

RememberTheMilk lets you set locations for tasks.

I'm a big fan of RTM. I discovered it when someone mentioned it on this forum.

Based on this Sep 2016 review, RTM appears to be similar to what I'm kludging in TD http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2491166,00.asp

QuoteAdding a location to a task gives you the ability to find a place on a map, name it, and tag your task with that place. Note that these are not location-based reminders. Locations here are nothing more than another type of tag. The idea is that you can quickly sort your tasks to see everything that you're supposed to do at, say, home or work.

If you want true location-based reminders, Todoist and Any.do both have them. Apple Reminders also has them for free, as does the Cortana iPhone app. With location-based reminders, you can set an alert on your phone that reminds you to do the task when you arrive at or leave a location, as determined by your phone's GPS. This feature lets you, for example, set a reminder to pick up the dry cleaning when you leave work. You could also set it to remind you to water the plants when you get home, buy light bulbs if you go to the store, or pick up a voter registration form the next time you hit the post office.

While I can see some utility for me in the 'when you arrive at or leave a location' location-based reminders, that doesn't help me plan ahead like the 'along route' idea.

While playing with this, I was reminded that since ToDoist is native to Alexa the individual list items quickly sync between two apps (Alexa > Lists & ToDoist) so both phone and desktop provide a 2 ways to access your lists.

ToDo-ist has a good site-search. I ended up inserting custom tags for frequented towns or states in the few items that needed locations and then used Tampermonkey to inject a nav bar for selecting them.  It also pulls up a reminder to check my other, separate OurGroceries lists. Looks fairly usable.

I use this, quite nice and can be used in a Getting Things Done style

I don't do the GEO thing though. I don't want no app knowing where I am all the time, plus battery kill.

>the system outlined above is unforgiving pretty good.

After days of customizing and tweaking, the above should now read

"the system is unforgiving & damn good"

The unforgiving part is what makes it.
