Let's just take light-duty vehicles with a short wheel base (not heavy trucks or buses), of which there were about 190 million on the road in 2015, according to government figures. For the sake of simplicity, replace them all with a full battery-electric vehicle that gets 3.5 miles per kilowatt-hour, loses 10 percent of the power it takes as it charges and discharges, and travels 13,000 miles a year.

Presto! You've basically created an entirely new center of demand for power rivaling the entire industrial sector of the U.S.

We work with the local government and their monstrous website and we've just started on their Save&Switch mini site - they are currently working out how much incentive they should offer people with solar/wind installations when they sell their excess electricity back to the local grid!

They would get a once off lump sum incentive and then a set price per unit of electricity they sell back.

Which is why I built the filtering reader.  We've discussed it elsewhere in the news burnout threads but it's alarming to see just how much has to be shoveled through in order to find a good read.

That article did cause me to think 'Oh yeah, rapidly replacing gas & diesel with electricity would hammer the grid.' --which I hadn't spent much time thinking about. At this point, we think about the end nodes of fuel distribution such as gas stations but not so much about the supply source.

That'll just speed up the shift away from consumption --either by conservation or going EV/hybrid.  Fuel taxes are out. Vehicle taxes are in.
