Gaining initial Twitter followers

Has anyone got any tips for a fast way to get a new twitter account to the 30-50 follower mark.  Quality of followers isn't too important as long as it isn't porny/spammy stuff.

In a nutshell I want to link the twitter accounts from the money sites - which will pull followers. However I don't want to link an empty account.  Not a problem on sites with mailing lists, but sometimes you just want  a few instant followers.

Most services i have seen it's been hard to find anyone vouching for. They also tend to be in the "million followers overnight" arena rather than dealing in handfuls.

Manual way:

1. Well posting works pretty good.  Make sure you slip in keywords.  Last couple of days I tweeted just a couple of time about single malts and a whine about model trains and gained like 6 followers (not sure for how long tho.)

2. Retweet interesting stuff often.

3. Set up some FollowFriday posts for awhile.  I used to schedule these in advance -easier that way.

4. Follow people who are in the same niche and look interesting.

Actually what you are saying is the real plan. However in terms of workflow I want the twitter profiles in place early (ie before a great deal has been posted), but don't want it to be completly empty.

search based on keyword, mass follow everyone in the results, post a few tweets so you have an active account, they will follow you to be nice, unfollow everyone else, rinse, repeat, then just before you hit the people you want to impress unfollow a few more (leaves you with more followers than following, at least temporarily.

At least thats conventional wisdom (and I think you can get a tool to do it actually), I haven't tried it personally so let me know if it works

hmm.. I suppose for now it's the hard work approach.  Let me find someone to do it for me!

Does give me a nice idea for a bot though.  I need more devs.

If you are OK with low quality followers then http://twiends.com/ is probably the answer.

Make sure on Twiends to set it to the absolute minimum amount of credits you give out and the strictest settings. That's the best way to get value for money otherwise you don't get that many followers and those that do sign up often unfollow. Even on the most hardass settings, people still sign up as they're gagging for credits. Different story for Facebook on their system - you have to virtually beg.
