I think Samsung may have hit the sweet spot here : http://www.reghardware.com/2011/03/22/samsung_galaxy_tab_10_1_8_9/
... assuming they get the basics sorted out Ok.

I have long held the view that the ideal tablet should be light enough to hold one handed for a sensible length of time, and not too physically large to make it an easy (or safe) carry to the pub/restaurant.

The demarcation line between phones and tablets is not yet clearly drawn - will be interesting to see how it develops.

before it was released, I thought the Galaxy would be a must-have. I find the ipad irritatingly too big to carry around with me all the time, and don't see the point of spending that amount of cash on something which I will only use in a place where there's a laptop anyway. Asus are bringing out some beautiful looking new eee in pad versions though, and since the Galaxy is pretty much universally slated I'm thinking I might give one of them a go.

Whatever it is, it needs to be handbag or large pocket compatible for me. Can't believe Apple aren't bringing out a half sized ipad to tackle the ebook and portability markets.

Coming out here on Friday. DKK 6000 ~ $1150 for the largest one with wifi and 3g.

Quotesince the Galaxy is pretty much universally slated..

That link I dropped is to the newer version - different beast from the old overpriced Galaxy Tab, and it ships with the proper Android for Tablets.

... or so they say.

The one that interests me is the HP TouchPad running WebOS.  Still vaporware I'm afraid, but I hope HP launches it soon.  Amazon promises a Kindle app for it.

You may have a point there 4Eyes - I see that Firefox 4 is out for Android (http://www.businessinsider.com/firefox-4-for-android-2011-3)  which I am presuming will give a nice quick flash page for kids.

The difference in price is not huge though.  Half a tank of petrol.  The weight factor for my 3 and 5 year old is probably good and they are not old enough for their friends to call it a fake ipad.  I may even expense it by buying it as a birthday present and take it off them when they are naughty which will put it in my hands 23hrs 59 minutes a day.
