Honestly, IMO this was the most ill-conceived move the United Kingdom has done in a long time, it's almost an American style self-inflicted wound.  I don't think the hammers of Northern Ireland and Scotland have fully fallen yet.

Honestly, I feel like this is a somewhat incorrect statement.  What the UK did was walk away from a codified trade agreement with the hope of getting one from the USA.  If anything the UK bet on the USA to have it's back when that was never  guaranteed  and increasingly unlikely with the rise of economic nationalism.
