I was reading that earlier.  I just cannot believe that paypal would be so stupid as to give out the last 4 digits of a credit card.  That is just utterly moronic.

How many of you use 2-factor authentication?

I have been wanting to use it, at least for important accounts. The problem is that the vast majority of the time I do not have cell phone access so I can't receive the text messages that most of them use. So I fear losing access and having to drive 45 mins to where I have a signal and get a code.

His comment about having long TTLs on your domain registrations is something that had never occurred to me, but pretty obvious.

You can print out like 10 one time use codes.

I use it for one of my accounts and it is a PITA. In my mail programs somehow that seems to screw things up.

I am a little worried though and am considering adding it to my other accounts. I use 4 main accounts though, so I really fear the switch. 4 x every device I own.

>> it is a PITA

Everytime someone says "It's super easy" and then says "all you do is" it sounds like a total PITA. Though I want to go there, you confirm my fears.

I use 2 factor on my google accounts and a few other key ones.  Not enough of them though.

It's been an occasional annoyance, but normally though my own stupidity more than anything else. Example: upgrading my phone today. Too impatient to wait for the sim to update to went on wifi anyway. Couldn't do sh## as I had no way of receiving the text until the sim was active.  Edge case stuff though. I'm dumber than most.

That's the problem - 90% of the time I'm in locations where I can't get text messages. So the idea that I can't get into GMail and it's a cold snowy night and I'm hunkered down at home... and I have to drive 30 minutes to get a cell signal so I can get a code. But of course, then I'm at some random spot on the road and don't have internet access. Furthermore, because cell coverage is so bad in my area, my cell phone is off about 95% of the time.

The catch 22 is that the only way I know to send and receive text messages is via... yep, GMail.

So any system that requires a text message is an absolute non-starter for me. I've been looking into Yubikey, but I'm petrified of losing my Yubikey.
