Slightly Off Topic ...

>I've looked into how "green" paperless billing is.
I've always had the same thought regarding eBook vs Paperbooks (pBooks). I can't confirm it, but my impression is that the energy consumed reading an ebook on a device would be more than the embedded energy (emergy) in the pBook, especially if one reads the same eBook more than once. I much prefer pBooks.

Web Development / Re: Would ugly sites still sell?
« on: December 17, 2019, 02:47:18 AM »
Well, it does depend on many factors, including what the prospect is looking to buy. These days my interest is mainly information, articles/research papers and the likes, and those sites do tend to be somewhat toned down, or plain and simple as Bucky mentions. It also depends on the potential market, for example, young bells and whistles type people are after exactly that. So, can ugly sites still sell? - yep, to the right market.

But then, I'm also seeing and uptake in the production of sites geared towards tablets and the mobile surfer, more so that in the past, and when I end up on one of those sites it annoys the begeezes out of me. I must admit, I am still influenced by the Steve Krug book - "Don't Make Me Think!"

On another note,

>ugly

Perhaps they found a copy of RC's blockbuster book - "Ugly Sites Sell."

This one is difficult to read for these old tired eyes. The old one was good, wasn't broken, didn't need fixing.

[added] OK, just read the reason. Belay my previous.

Belated thanks for the reminders about Trends and Ngrams (I've been out of the game too long). The provided some very useful info.

"Google Translate invented its own language to help it translate more effectively.

What’s more, nobody told it to. It didn’t develop a language (or interlingua, as Google call it) because it was coded to. It developed a new language because the software determined over time that this was the most efficient way to solve the problem of translation."

Thanks all, I have what I need. This wasn't for a web project, but researching the relative interest between three disciplines for a paper I'm writing. So detailed accuracy wasn't important, rather I was just after ballpark ratios.

Web Development / Google Suggest Search Volume?
« on: January 16, 2017, 11:31:14 PM »
Times were there were some Google Suggest (Gs) keyword tools that also return Gs search volume. I've been doing some searching and there still seem to be a number of Gs tools out there but alas without the search volume? Anyone know of any?

Thanks,
Woz

So, how are everyone's bees going?

It's the middle of swarming season here, although I am deliberately not catching any this season. Got a couple of cutouts to do, one is a massive outdoor hive hanging in an Apple Tree, the other a 4 box Lang tipped on it's side and presumably has been that way for quite a few years. (long story)

Of my 16 hives, I brought 8 up to the farm earlier this year (6 Langs, 1 Warre, 1 Kenyan) and left them all the honey they had to see them through winter as I hadn't got a handle on available forage at that time. Sadly three hive didn't make it, 2 small ones, perhaps understandable, and my biggest 4 boxer. Don't know why that one failed, haven't opened it up yet. The Warre and Kenyan are doing fine.

Still have 8 hives back in the city and word is they are doing fine, have to organise an inspection/robbing trip.

I would imagine all your northern-hemispherers will have packed down for winter already. How was last season?
