Web Development / Re: The Thing I Hate About Wordpress Is.....
« on: January 18, 2011, 12:26:33 PM »
I agree especially when dealing with complex sites with custom or amended plugins, you just never know if it is going to break the site unless you have a test site in place. Wordpress is a fantastic package with huge advantages which is why I still maintain that it is the best system to build on for the majority of sites. However the constant upgrades and inability to handle 30K plus posts are the frustrating disadvantages of a system that has so much to offer. I choose my upgrades very carefully and tend to only upgrade if a security flaw has been detected and fixed or they have developed a must have feature.

I would suggest to them that they will gain a better return on investment by buying quality links. I presume they are paying for your time to gain free links for them, if so then you could explain it this way, they pay you x amount per hour to build up lesser value links to the point where 1 well sought link will be more effective than the 100 free ones they have paid yourself to source and build, so what they pay out for the link initially they save in time. It is a cost benefit ratio, it probably costs them more to concentrate on gaining free links than it would be to buy the effective ones.

If they still don't get it I agree with mr gimp dump them, they just don't get it!

Zinga have done a phenomenal job with their games and the art of tempting consumers to pay real money for virtual goods. On my inital reasearch of Yoville I found that many players were spending at least a $100 a month on virtual goods through this game alone I found some that claim to spend $1000 a month on a regular basis right upto $5000 dollars a month for one player. With over 5 million active monthly users for Yoville alone (the last time I heard) they are pulling in some nice revenues.

The way they have generated revenues through brand marketing in this game is by offering players free yocash (which players pay for at a rate of over $10 for 50 yocash) when they sign up with brand x, the majority of which also need the player to purchase their services or put a cc on file. They ended up in a lawsuit at one point as a members credit card was billed for over $200 for offers she completed to receive YoVille currency.

However they could take this much further with a much more effective strategy than they are doing now.

I have used odesk in the past and it has been a very positive experience, received well written interesting ontheme content within a reasonable time frame and great price. However it depends on who you hire of course.

lol I wonder though how many people use those questions as qualifiers to hire seos, just like they use google qualifications and degree courses in online marketing!

It always makes me laugh how people use this as an accreditation or deciding factor when promoting or hiring seo services. Because of course google run courses to show you how to cheat their algo and students that have proved they can pass exams on coursework based on information that has been discovered (and in most cases not based on original research), written into a course framework and then taught 4 years ago are of course just the people you want to hire to execute their 'expertise' in an ever changing medium! ::)

Hardware & Technology / Re: Creative domain name tool

domaintools is the one I use, domains have never been bought that I have generated through this site.

I have used the gigya tool bar but actually prefer wibiya. People have been interacting with the bar logging into facebook and twitter and sharing stuff through it on our sites with no added value for doing so other than sharing a product or page with their pals. I think it is well worth adding to a site that can benefit from interactive social media marketing. I haven't utilised open id to login in to any of our sites actual functionality yet but agree the benefits are clear in many cases.

You can also always go one step further by offering out with master resell rights and get others to promote your book for you with cobranding (if available with your ebook compiler). This will help widen the audiance depending on the business model. Something I have specked out and is ready to go when I need it, got the relevant tools, plan etc for but not actioned due to time contstraints and businesses I have run with.

I think it is a great model if applied to the right project.
