Might grow a bit faster now: the new iOS 14 lets you set your choice of browser as default and DDG Privacy Browser is one of the choices.

Just like Google became synonymous with "search engine" 2 decades ago, DDG is becoming synonymous with "privacy" which is a very good position to be in.

BoL, I'm guessing that whole auction thing will probably get the sack from the EU regulators the next time they look at it.

No one seems to like it, particularly DDG

Google's whole point was to flip the bird to the EU regulators.  I hope they had their fun, because the EU can eventually box Google into a corner,  and/or go after Google's control of Android itself although it might take a long while.

On some sites I see them >= referrals than Bing. They've got an appreciable share for sure. Question is where do they go from here?

I read somewhere: DDG sees themselves, currently, as an internet privacy company, not as a search engine company. (They say.) The search engine is just one of many tools towards privacy.  This might explain why they have not created a real serious crawler to build their own index.

I could see them moving next into either privacy focused messenger service or social network.  However both require registration which becomes a problem.

I don't think Microsoft will refuse to renew the search feed deal with DDG.  DDG's success helped convince everyone else to use/buy Bing results and Microsoft is reportedly making a profit on this plus sticking it to Google so it's all win-win for MS.

DuckDuckGrowth over the last 12 months: 50M+ app downloads, 55% search traffic increase, #2 search engine on mobile in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the Netherlands & more.

https://spreadprivacy.com/duckduckgrowing/

That #2 search engine on mobile caught my attention.  Sure you can be a poor second to Google and still be #2, but it's the fact that they are bumping Bing from the second slot that seems telling to me.  I think that DDG privacy browser app might be the key.

All these rankings could change overnight if Apple releases their own search engine on iOS.  Apple's been real quiet.
