Why is it that robots that are made to look real are more spooky than robots that look like robots? Seriously, the humanoid ones with faces absolutely terrify me. And I can't explain why because I know it's not real. But the lizard part of my brain is not convinced.

I am sure you are familiar with the term uncanny valley.  Though in the example above I think what I found so disturbing was how un-human they looked while having human like skin.  I think it may be similar to how some people are afraid of clowns -- they have human like features but are not human (clowns are obviously human under the makeup, but the illusion is there).
