The Economist podcast just did a nice episode on this.
I like getting non-American perspectives - Economist, BBC, Le Monde - but increasingly The Economist feels like an American publication.
Ironically, The Economist is a liberal publication in the British sense and they harp on that pretty frequently, but increasingly feels like a liberal publication in the American sense. A decade or so ago, a very centrist friend (military academy grad, former officer, but not particularly conservative) said that the great thing about The Economist is that it's fundamental perspective hasn't changed since the 19th century, so when you find The Economist leaning left or right, it's probably not The Economist that has done the most changing.
